The Kathima is a gorgeous coffee from a region we don't typically buy from but it does showcase all the lovely things we adore about Kenyan coffees.

The Thambana Farmers’ Cooperative Society owns two factories: Kiungu and Kathima. Thambana FCS is located in Embu county, near Embu town. The soil in the area is very fertile and the location is close to the Mount Kenya forest.

The flowering period for these coffees is February - March and the harvest runs from October to December.

The cherries are handpicked and then pulped. The parchment is fermented overnight. The next day, they wash the coffee. This process removes excess sugars from the bean and it also enables the cooperative to grade the parchment by density.
